Leah Henzen and Melissa Giaquinta today met with Year 10 Psychology students at Lakeside Lutheran College, Pakenham. The class is studying clinical psychology this term and so Leah and Melissa spoke about what it’s like to work in clinical settings on a day-to-day basis. They then demonstrated a clinical assessment through a role-play, teaching students about how to assess for anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other mental health problems. Leah and Melissa also demonstrated a clinical intervention often taught to clients with anxiety; cognitive defusion, which helps clients to distance themselves from distressing thoughts. The class then asked some great questions to finish the session. Good luck Year 10 Psychology students at Lakeside Lutheran College.
